α-GLYCEROPHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE POLYMORPHISM IN SOME DROSOPHILIDS | BIONATURE

At a single locus coding for -glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (-GPDH), horizontal starch gel electrophoretic examination of single individuals from naturally caught as well as laboratory strains of fifteen drosophilids demonstrated very low allelic variability and heterozygozygosity. In D. immigrans, D. buscki, and Zaprionus species, the most prevalent -GPDH allozymes are unique. The low level of genic variation seen at the -GPDH gene was discussed.
