VARIABILITY IN SEED PROTEINS OF TRITICALE | BIONATURE

UC-15, UC-48, UC-56, UC-40, UC-43, UC-63, UC-68, T-40, 6T-392, and DTS-630 seeds were crushed and macerated with cold extraction buffer. The resultant solution was centrifuged after being filtered through muslin cloth. The supernatant was electrophoresed on a polyacrylamide gel column as recommended by Davis (1964), with 0.1 percent amido black staining the seed proteins and 7 percent acetic acid destaining. The protein bands in the triticale strains ranged from four to 10 in number. The Rf values ranged between 0.10 and 0.90. Some of the bands were more substantial than others. Thus, the types of storage seed proteins can be clarified further using 2-D electrophoresis. The current findings, on the other hand, imply that there is diversity for such proteins in triticales, which can be used in triticale improvement and varietal identification.
