Using Systemic Racism as an Omnibus Explanation of Social Inequality: The Dependent - Independent Va

According to a commonly held social science convention, researchers presume that racism is the root of social gaps between Black and White people. Racism is implicitly assigned as an independent variable to explain observed racial inequalities in a vast multidisciplinary study literature. While that study does show Black-White social disparities, it does so primarily by quantifying the degree of those disparities rather than looking into the causes. As a result, blaming racism for those discrepancies is frequently based on speculation rather than scientific fact. Two examples are given to show how this has an impact on current research. The practise of attributing racism as an independent variable to explain group differences without question is unscientific, and it has resulted in unsuccessful measures to address the problem.
