The Chinese Newcomers from Behoririka | Asian Journal of Sociological Research

We will look at the topic of Chinese newcomers from Behoririka in this post. This region is in the heart of Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital. Behoririka also happens to be a popular tourist destination near an artificial lake with numerous Chinese restaurants. These various characteristics would allow one to challenge a current phenomenon that should be chronologically classified. Chinese were already present in Madagascar as wage labourers in a colony by the end of the nineteenth century. Then, in 1975, when the second Malagasy Socialist Republic was formed, there were additional migratory flows from China to Madagascar due to the Republic of China's ideological proximity. The latest south-south migration from China to Madagascar raises the issue of how these new companies can develop themselves in the heart of Madagascar's capital. In order to analyse the content of this migratory flow and highlight the various reasons for these journeys, we will create a typology of the various overseas Chinese actors in this region. This will allow us to examine the stage of their emergence as Antananarivo's new actors over a recent era, from 2003 to 2012.
