Studies on the Incidence and Persistence of Major Insect Pests of Soybean and their Bio-control Agen
During the rabi season of 2018-19, an experiment was conducted at Bangladesh Agricultural University's Entomology field laboratory in Mymensingh to investigate the abundances and population dynamics of major insect pests of soybean in the soybean ecosystem. From seedling to pod maturity, a total of twelve insect pests and five beneficial arthropods were described in this report. Jassids, whitefly, leaf beetle, grasshopper, and soybean leaf roller were classified as the top five insect pests. The remaining seven insects were deemed minor due to low population densities and limited damage. The ladybird beetle, lynx spiders, wolf spiders, carabid beetle, and green mirid bug were all found to be beneficial arthropods. Jassid, whitefly, and leaf beetles were the most common insect pests from the vegetative to flowering stages, grasshopper from the vegetative to mid-pod formation period, and soybean leaf roller from the vegetative to pod maturity stage. With some variations, population incidence was observed from mid-January to mid-March, with the highest incidence occurring in February.
