Structure of Global Knowledge on Coronavirus | Asian Journal of Research in Medicine and Medical ...

Background: The purpose of this study was to look into the structure of worldwide knowledge on Coronavirus using scientometric indicators and to create a citation map to get additional information.

Methods: In terms of objective, the current study is a descriptive study that employs a quantitative approach and employs a scientometric technique. Documentary or library studies were utilised to familiarise themselves with the history of the Coronavirus subject as well as the theoretical basis of study. All scientific products in the topic of Coronavirus illness (containing 6980 documents) were assessed in the Web of Science database from 1985 to 2019. (On April 10, 2020). The citation map was created using the VOS Viewer and Excel software.

Results: The production of documents in the subject of Coronavirus involved 20933 authors, 6980 documents, 1074 journals, 3683 institutions, and finally 124 nations. Meanwhile, Yuen Kwok-yung published 70 papers, received 3862 citations, and was ranked first among writers; Masters (2006a) was first among documents; Journal of Virology was the top document producer; and the University of Hong Kong was the top ranking institution. The first three countries to produce Coronavirus documents were the United States, China, and the Netherlands.

Conclusions: The Coronavirus citation network analysis results can be a useful tool for quickly identifying scientific products and tracking articles and ideas in this area for policymaking in line with treatment aims.
