Structure of Global Knowledge on Coronavirus | Asian Journal of Research in Medicine and Medical

Background: The aim of this study was to look into the structure of global knowledge on Coronavirus using scientometric indicators and to create a citation map to get more detail.


Methods: In terms of purpose, the current analysis is a descriptive study that employs a quantitative approach and employs a scientometric methodology. Documentary or library studies were used to familiarise themselves with the history of the Coronavirus topic as well as the theoretical foundations of science. All research items in the field of Coronavirus disease (including 6980 documents) were checked in the Web of Science database from 1985 to 2019. (On April 10, 2020). The citation map was created using the VOS Viewer and Excel programme.


Results: The development of documents in the field of Coronavirus included 20933 writers, 6980 documents, 1074 journals, 3683 organisations, and finally 124 countries. Meanwhile, Yuen Kwok-yung published 70 articles, earned 3862 citations, and was ranked first among authors; Masters (2006a) was first among documents; Journal of Virology was the top document producer; and the University of Hong Kong was the top ranking institution. The first three countries to produce Coronavirus documents were the United States, China, and the Netherlands.


Conclusions: The Coronavirus citation network review findings can be a useful tool for quickly identifying research products and tracking publications and ideas in this field for policymaking in line with treatment goals.
