Socio-demographic Variables and Activities/Opportunities for Employability Skills among Undergrad...

The study looked at the most popular activities/opportunities for undergraduates in Nigeria's Southwestern universities to improve their employability skills. It also looked into the differences in male and female undergraduate students' perspectives on activities and opportunities for employability skills in the study areas, as well as the differences in undergraduate students' age brackets' perspectives on activities and opportunities in the study areas. These were conducted with the goal of learning more about the impact of socio-demographic factors on possibilities for employability skills among undergraduate students in Nigeria's Southwestern universities. A descriptive survey research design was used in this study. Undergraduate students from Nigeria's Southwestern universities made up the population. A multistage sampling process was used to choose a sample size of five hundred and forty (540) undergraduate students. Two hypotheses were raised and verified, and one research question was posed and answered. Frequency counts, simple percentages, the Relative Significance Index (RSI), the t-test, and the Analysis of Variance were used to examine the data (ANOVA). Extracurricular activities, hands-on experience work, excursions, and field trips were shown to be the most important activities/opportunities for employability skills, with RSI values of 0.95, 0.82, and 0.79, respectively. In addition, there was a significant difference in the attitudes of male and female undergraduate students in Southwestern Nigerian universities about activities and possibilities for employability skills (t = 3.993; p 0.05). Finally, there was a significant difference in activities and chances for employability skills in the study areas depending on the age group of undergraduate students (F = 7.767; p 0.05). Socio-demographic characteristics are important drivers of activities or chances for employability skills among undergraduate students in southern Nigeria, according to the study. As a result, more activities/opportunities related to employability skills should be made available to undergraduate students by government parastatals and non-governmental organisations.
