Two endogamous subgroups (Goldsmiths & Carpenters) of Viswa Brahmins, as well as the artisan caste population of Visakhapatnam City, Andhra Pradesh, India, have been shown to have sickle cell haemoglobin and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. The findings are compared to those of other Andhra Pradesh populations.
