ROLE OF SILICON APPLICATION IN THE AUGMENTATION THE PLANT RESISTANCE UNDER FLUORIDE STRESS: A REVIEW

Salinity stress, primarily high fluoride levels, affects crop plant growth and production, resulting in a significant drop in crop yield. Salinity stress reduces the concentration of chlorophyll pigments, which reduces photosynthetic rate and results in poor plant growth. The accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) caused by fluoride causes oxidative stress, which has a negative impact on plant metabolism. Due to the complexity and polygenic nature of salt tolerance traits in plants, achieving salt tolerance through breeding is difficult. As a result, silicon application is one of the preferred approaches for mitigating the negative effects of salinity stress, especially fluoride, in an environmentally friendly manner. In this study, an effort is made to improve comprehension in a comprehensive manner.
