RELATIONSHIP OF MATERNAL AGE WITH TWINING RATE, BIRTH ORDER AND BIRTH WEIGHT OF TWINS | BIONATURE
The rural Bengalee population's twinning rate was computed using data from two hospitals: Habra State General Hospital in Habra 24-Parganas (North) West Bengal and R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Calcutta.
334 twins, 3 triplets, and 10 pairings of indeterminate sex were discovered among the 32,873 births between 1979 and 1986 (excluding 1981). In the rural Bengalee population, the twinning rate was determined to be 10-16 per thousand. In the present study, the twinning rate claimed in Indian literature as high as 18.1 per thousand in rural Bengalee population was not found. The twinning rate calculated from rural Bengalees was nearly identical to that calculated from urban Bengalees and other urban populations from various parts of India.
Between 1979 and 1986, there was a drop in the stillbirth rate among twins (28.50-16.66).
In a rural Bengalee population, the effect of maternal age on twinning rate was discovered. The effects of factors such as maternal age at twin births and twin birth order in the sibship on birth weight among twins were investigated. The findings of the ANOVA show that maternal age (P0.05) and birth order (P0.01) both have a significant impact on twin birth weight.
