REGENERATION OF PLANTS OF FINGER MILLET (ELEUSINE CORACANA GAERTN.) BY TISSUE CULTURE METHOD .....
For millions of people living in some of the world's toughest climates, where rains frequently fail, millets are a key source of energy and protein. Millets have gotten very little attention in tissue culture studies. In vitro-grown mesocotyl, leaf sheath, and root explants in MS medium supplemented with different auxins like 2,4-D, NAA, IAA, IBA, and growth additives like CW and EDTA were used to study callus initiation, growth, and differentiation. Direct plant regeneration with callus development from mesocotyl explants was observed when IAA and IBA were combined, as well as when NAA and CW were combined. Somatic embryogenesis in callus culture was strongly impacted by 2, 4-D.
