Predictive Influence of Joint Psycho-Social Factors as Determinant of Truancy among Senior Secondary

In the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria, this study looked into the predictive influence of combined psycho-social factors as a determinant of truancy among senior secondary school II students. A research objective, research question, and research hypothesis were devised to drive the study, and the survey was designed as a descriptive survey. The sample size was 6,968, and 357 individuals were chosen using a non-probability purposive sampling technique as directed by the research advisor from a population of 6,968 Senior Secondary II pupils. An instrument titled "Psycho-social predictors' questionnaire and student's attendance record" was used to collect data for the study, and it has face and content validity based on expert judgement, as well as a reliability co-efficient of 0.73, indicating that it is reliable for data collection.

The hypothesis was tested using multiple regression analysis. Academic self-efficacy, enthusiasm in schooling, parental participation, peer influence, and exam anxiety were found to have a substantial impact on absenteeism among secondary school pupils in Taraba State's Wukari Local Government Area. As a result, the null hypotheses were disproved. Based on the findings, it was suggested that teachers should avoid administering unneeded tests, especially when they are not required, since this will reduce student tension and anxiety. In addition, school administrators and counsellors should provide appropriate guidance to pupils in order to prevent peer pressure that could harm their future.
