OBSERVATIONS ON ISOETES COROMANDELINA L. (fil) | BIONATURE

On the basis of megaspore structure and characteristics alone, the plants of Isoetes coromandelina L. (fil.) in Pratappur (Allahabad) population can be separated into three distinct types. The megaspores of all the plants are pustulate (tuberculate), but they differ noticeably in diameter, size, and the arrangement of pustules (tubercles), as well as the apparent variances in their triradiate and equatorial ridges. Plants in this population may have arisen as a result of intrakaryotypic evolution, hybridization, or transmigration of some plants (or megaspores) from other populations in the area, resulting in a mixed population.
