OBSERVATIONS ON CEMENT DUST POLLUTION IN BAGHWAR REGION, REWA (M.P.) | BIONATURE

In the Bagh conflict zone of Rewa, studies on cement dust pollution have been conducted (M.P.). Dust deposition, leaf chlorophyll content, and soil properties have all been evaluated. Up to one kilometre, samples were taken from each of the four directions at every 100 metres. The results showed that as the distance from the emission source increased, dust deposition on leaves of all species decreased (3.846 to 0.016 mg/cm2). Plants of Butea monosperma, Carissa spinarum, Madhuca indica, and Tectona grandis from contaminated environments showed a significant reduction of leaf chlorophyll content. There is also a significant variance between soils from different sites in terms of pH (87 to 7.1) and water holding capacity (14 percent to 33 percent).
