NODULATION IN COWPEA AS AFFECTED BY INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT| BIONATURE

Under a split plot design, cowpea was grown at four levels of NPK (0,50,75,100 percent depending on STR) without and with FYM @ 10t ha-1 in main plots. Subplots were treated with four different degrees of bio-fertilisers (no inoculation, N2-fixers such as Rhizobium in Cowpea, PSB, and Rhizobium + PSB, and Rhizobium + PSB). Application of NPK up to 100 percent STR and addition of FYM @ 10 t ha-1 considerably boosted the number of nodules per plant and its fresh and dry weight 45 days after sowing, according to observations. At 100 percent NPK and 10 t ha-1 FYM, the maximum number of nodules per plant, as well as their fresh and dry weight, were observed. Inoculation with Rhizobium and PSB alone or in combination enhanced the number of nodules perplant and their weights, with dual inoculation yielding the best results.
