MULTIPLE SHOOT BUD FORMATION IN SHOOT TIP CULTURE OF AN OIL YIELDING PLANT: NIGER (GUIZOTIA ABYS....

For the first time, the formation of numerous shoot buds from shoot tip culture of the oil-producing plant Guizotia abyssinica Casst has been examined. The relevance of this research is that tissue culture can be used to produce rapid multiplication of the G. abyssinica Cass plant. Guizotia abyssinica Cass. shoot tips were taken from seedlings cultivated in vitro on Murashige and Skoog's media (MS). Half shot apices cultivated on MS media with 0.1-30 mg ml of BAP produced the best results in terms of shoot multiplication. Auxin suppressed multiplication while encouraging callus formation.
