Milling and Shedding Variability of Rice Plant at Harvest Season | Asian Journal of Research and ...

The major goals of farming operations are to improve the quality and productivity of all cereal crops. Several factors have been identified as having a substantial impact on these features. Among these, grain breaking is cited as a significant factor that has a direct impact on rice quantity and quality. A two-year study was done to investigate the impact of grain shattering on grain yield and milling parameters in order to find variations in grain yield and milling properties. A five-repetition factororial experiment with a completely randomised setup. Rice cultivars were assigned at three levels (Hashemi, Gilaneh, and Anam), harvest date was assigned at five levels (26, 28, 30, 32, and 34 days after 50 percent flowering), and grain placement on the panicle was assigned at three levels (Hashemi, Gilaneh, and Anam) (upper, middle, and basal). The separation force of grain from its pedicel and milling parameters were chosen as dependent variables. The separation force of rice cultivars vary greatly, according to data analysis. Hashemi harvested at 26 DAF yielded the highest mean force (1.18 N), while Anam picked at 34 DAF yielded the lowest value (0.11 N). Due to late planting in the first year, the year effect was substantial (P = 0.01). For both study years, the separation force showed a decreasing tendency from the first to the last date of harvesting intervals. Hashemi, Gilaneh, and Anam received 9, 7, and 10%, respectively. Because each panicle does not ripen evenly, the basal grains required greater detaching effort than the higher grains. Hashemi, Gilaneh, and Anam all had increases of 36, 57, and 51 percent, respectively. For trial intervals, natural shattering increased by 0.049, 0.081, and 0.112 percent for Hashemi, Gilaneh, and Anam, respectively. Late planting in the first year boosted head rice yields significantly, with cultivars seeing a 6-10% increase in yield in the second year. Overall, it is believed that the best harvest date for rice varieties is 30 DAF.
