Market Integration and Price Transmission Mechanism in Major Potato Markets of Punjab, Pakistan.....

This study uses monthly extensive market prices from the Agriculture Management Information System (AMIS) from 2011 to 2020 for the eight selected markets of Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Kasur, Lahore, Multan, Okara, Rahimyarkhan, and Sheikhupura to measure the degree of mixing of agriculture markets for potato crop within the Punjab province of Pakistan. Johansen Using the maximum likelihood estimate approach, a cointegration model was used to determine the level of cointegration between selected markets. Market integration and price transmission in the potato markets were explored in this study. The findings revealed that potato markets are well-coordinated both horizontally and vertically in terms of price adjustment speed. Furthermore, cropping patterns have changed in response to changing market demand and government price interventions from 2000 to 2014. The Punjab Farm Marketing Regulatory Agency (PAMRA) Act 2020 implemented measures targeted at improving competition in agriculture markets and having the potential to improve economic efficiency dramatically.
