The formar exhibited a longer median and maximum life span than the two species, Caryedon serratus and Callosobruchus maculatus. The males had a long life expectancy and a low age-dependent susceptibility to death, despite the fact that the ageing rate was high solely in C. maculatus males. Catalase levels were higher in both seses of C. serratus than in C. maculatus at all ages, and in the males of C. maculatus than in C. maculatus. The former had a higher life expectancy and a higher birth rate. Catalase levels were higher in both sexes at all ages.
