INTERACTION BETWEEN THREE WHITE CLOVER CULTIVARS AND TWO RYEGRASSES | BIONATURE
White clover (Trifolium repens L.) cultivars 'S100,' 'S184,' and Kersey were grown as monocultures or in 1.1 ratios with ryegrasses 'S23' and 'Sabrina' (an allotetraploid) (Lolium perenne L.). The yield of clover in the mixture was shown to be lower depending on the grass variety. Grass yields were inversely connected to clover yields, and grass cultivars influenced the mix's composition. Grass and clover yields were both reduced by frequent defoliation, however there were variances across cultivars. Combinations of cultivar and management, it is suggested, may go a long way toward controlling both production and composition of grassclover mixtures.
