Instability of a Plasma in Porous Medium | Asian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics

In the presence of a porous media and a finite Larmor radius effect, the double-diffusive instability of a plasma is studied. The dispersion relation is calculated using linear stability theory and the normal mode analysis approach. The presence of a limited Larmor radius, a steady solute gradient, and a magnetic field induces oscillatory modes in the systems that were not present before. The limited Larmor radius and steady solute gradient have stabilising effects on the system in the stationary convection example. In the presence of finite Larmor radius effect, the medium permeability has a destabilising (or stabilising) effect, and the magnetic field has a stabilising (or destabilising) effect, whereas in the absence of finite Larmor radius effect, the medium permeability and the magnetic field have a stabilising (or destabilising) effect.
