INHERITANCE OF ANTI-A AND ANTI-B ISOAGGLUTININS–FAMILY AND TWIN STUDY | BIONATURE

The anti-A and anti-B isoagglutinin titres of 75 brahmin families and 66 pairs of twins in Visakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (India) were investigated to determine the function of genetic component in titre variance. In family data, anti-B had a higher mean titre value than anti-A in all blood groups. For all combinations, the intrafamilial correlation coefficients were significant. The heritability results also point to a greater genetic component in influencing antibody titre. The considerable difference in titre values between 0 and A, B, twins suggests that antibody strength changes between hererozygous and homozygous states.
