Lablab purpureus L. plants (15 days old). In var 2216, grown from seeds soaked in PEG and cycocel, greater leaf area was observed, which was accompanied by reduced chlorophyll stability index (CSI) values in both varieties. In comparison to unsoaked and distilled water soaked seeds, PEG treatment resulted in an increase in proline/g fresh weight. During subsequent development, PEG treatments were observed to have a slight increase in free proline levels, especially under stressful conditions. Under stress, total free sugars increased in var 836, especially during training sessions. The findings suggest that proline and free sugar levels play a role in osmotic adjustment during water stress, but there are varietal differences. Seed conditioning using cycocel and PEG, on the other hand, was found to have just a minor effect.
