HYBRID DYSGENESIS IN THE AEDES (STEGOMYIA) SCUTELLARIS SUBGROUP (DIPTERA: CULICIDAE)| BIONATURE

In interspecific hybrids of the Ae. (Stegomyia) scutellaris subgroup, dysgenic features such as non-reciprocal fertility, unequal hybrid fertility, transmission-ratio distortion, enhanced recombination, and chromosomal abnormalities were observed. The majority of these genetic events might be traced to chromosomal breakages and chromosome-cytoplasm interaction. In this species subgroup, these genetic features were thought to be the most powerful determinants in evolution and speciation.
