High Incidence of Epithelial Dysplasia in Oral Leukplakia: A Retrospective Study | Asian Journal of

"Oral leukoplakia" refers to white keratotic plaques that have been diagnosed after all other known lesions and etiologic factors have been ruled out. The goal of this case series was to establish the clinical and histologic precancerous aspects of this epithelial lesion due to the possibility of malignant transformation. The research was carried out at Kerman's dentistry faculty's oral medicine department. From 1999 to 2017, the demographic, clinical, and histopathologic features of biopsy-proven oral leukoplakia patients were gathered and recorded in pre-designed charts. Finally, 85.1 percent of the 47 patients had a match between the clinical and histologic diagnosis of this lesion. Epithelial dysplasia was found in 48.9% of the cases (38.3 percent mild, 8.5 percent moderate, and 2.1 percent severe), whereas 53.2 percent of the lesions were benign.
