Happiness and Crime: A Time Series Analysis for Iranian Economy | Asian Journal of Economics, Financ

Criminal conduct is influenced by economic and social variables. This study uses a cointegration technique and a Granger causality test to look at the link between happiness and crime rate in the Iranian economy from 1984 to 2019. First, there is a negative and substantial association between household recreation and entertainment expenditures and crime rates, according to the findings. Second, crime is statistically affected by educational expenditures and GDP per capita. The findings of the study suggest that boosting household spending on entertainment and happiness reduces worry and tension, improving people's abilities and keeping them away from crime. As a result, the government should provide the appropriate atmosphere to minimise crime by focusing on socioeconomic initiatives that promote happiness.
