HALDANE’S RULE ON HYBRID STERILITY – A HYPOTHESIS FOR A MOLECULAR EXPLANATION | BIONATURE
When one sex is nonexistent, rare, or sterile in the F1 offspring of two separate animal races, that sex is known as the heterozygous (heterogametic) sex (Haldane, 1926). Haldane's rule is named after J. B. S. Haldane's observation. Many investigations have demonstrated that Haldane's rule is universally relevant, regardless of whether the male or female sex is heterogametic. Various theoretical explanations for hybrids' unique behaviour have been advanced, albeit little experimental evidence in support of one or the other concept has been given.
