Governance, Quality and Operating Environment Contagious in Sustainability: Understanding Project Su

The youth empowerment projects have been a strategic asset for the economy's growth because the youth are the most productive resource Kenya has or will have in the near future. Kenya Vision 2030 emphasises the importance of youth empowerment as a socioeconomic pillar by implementing a number of initiatives to empower youth. However, there have been concerns expressed about the long-term viability of youth empowerment projects, as most of them fall short of expectations. According to literature, project sustainability is dependent on competent project governance. Studies have found evidence of both major and insignificant effects on project governance-sustainability outcomes, however these studies lack empirical support in the Kenyan setting. This study looked at the impact of project governance, quality, and operating environment on project sustainability from the perspective of youth empowerment in the Kenyan setting. Data was collected and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics from a survey of 196 respondents who were project managers and youth leaders working in Youth Empowerment Projects. Project governance was found to be a strong predictor of project sustainability of Youth Empowerment viewpoints in the Kenyan setting (R =.863, R2 =.745, p = 0.000). Furthermore, the quality of the project had a substantial impact on the long-term viability of Youth Empowerment Projects (R =.664, R2 =.661, p = 0.000). Furthermore, in Kenya, the project operating environment had a significant impact on project viability (R =.732, R2 =.728, p = 0.000). The study concludes by advising stakeholders in Youth Empowerment Projects, such as Kenyan county governments and non-governmental organisations, to put in place effective project governance structures, ensure high project quality standards, and maintain a stable project operating environment, as these factors significantly improve the projects' long-term sustainability.
