Fungal Infection Causing a Diagnostic Dilemma! | Asian Journal of Medical Case Reports

Histoplasmosis is a fungus caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, which is found all over the world. One of the uncommon types of histoplasmosis is disseminated histoplasmosis (DH). The Indian subcontinent's failure to recognise the full burden of Histoplasmosis is related to likely misdiagnosis as tuberculosis, cancer, or other illnesses. We describe a young immunocompetent boy who was diagnosed with DH and later developed HLH. The key to managing DH is early identification and treatment, as it may be deadly if left untreated. We describe this case as an example of what might happen when DH and HLH coexist, despite our patient's immunocompetence. Our example demonstrates the difficulties we encountered during diagnosis, as well as how, in TB-endemic regions, It's possible to misdiagnose pulmonary Histoplasmosis.
