FREQUENCY AND SPECTRUM OF MUTATIONS INDUCES BY SEPARATE AND SIMULTANEOUS APPLICATIONS OF GAMMA RAYS

Dry and dormant lentil (Lens culinaris Med.) var. T36 seeds were exposed to 5, 10, and 15 Kr of gamma rays, as well as 0.02 percent NMU, in independent and simultaneous treatments. The frequency of critical mutations observed in the M2 population, as well as the M3 breeding behaviour of isolated mutants, are reported in this work. The mutation spectrum for several therapy combinations has been given. Gamma rays were shown to be less efficient as a mutagen than NMU. Although simultaneous treatment with NMU improved gamma ray efficiency to some level, the combined treatments did not demonstrate a synergistic effect of the two mutagens.
