FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM IN OXYCARENUS LAETUS KIRBY (HETEROPTERA : LYGAEIDAE) | BIONATURE

Oxycarenus laetus has seven ovarioles in its telotrophic ovary, each with an apical germarium and a basal vitellarium. Mono-, bi-, and multinucleate trophocytes, prefollicular tissue, and oogonia occupy the germarium. The contents of the trophocytes are poured into the trophic core, which then provides sustenance to the expanding oocytes via nutritive cords. The vitellarium is made up of four oocytes that are placed in maturity order. The follicular epithelium surrounds each oocyte, which is separated from the next by interfollicular tissue. Before entering into the vaginal chamber, the ovaries open into lateral oviducts, which unite to form the median oviduct. A spermatheca and a single female accessory gland also enter into the vaginal chamber.
