Evaluation of Field Efficacy of Different Bacterial Fermented Insecticides against Tomato Fruit Bore
Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae), the tomato fruit borer, is a polyphagous insect pest that is considered the most important limiting factor in active tomato production in Bangladesh. By boring into tomato fruits, this internal feeder causes significant yield losses, and the damaged fruits eventually rot or ripen prematurely. Efficacy of Suspend 5SG (Emamectin Benzoate) @ 1.0 and 1.5 g/L, Libsen 45 SC (Spinosad) @ 0.25 and 0.50 ml/L, and Ambush 1.8EC (Abamectin) @ 2.0 and 3.0 ml/L against tomato fruit borer was evaluated in a field experiment conducted during the 2017-18 rabi season.Since the beginning of the fruit borer infestation, four sprays were applied at seven-day intervals, and tomatoes were harvested at ten-day intervals. The number of infested and marketable fruits per m2 as well as the yield of infested and marketable tomato fruits (t/ha) were measured. Suspend 5SG and Libsen 45 SC were found to be the most successful and differed significantly from the untreated control with the greatest reduction in fruit infestation and the highest output of marketable yield (t/ha). In relation to the efficacy of Suspend 5 SG and Libsen 45 SC, Ambush 1.8 EC was found to be less successful in the parameters tested.
