Employability of Students in Indian Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities..

The paper evaluates the employability of graduates in Indian higher education. Existing literature is evaluated to explore the causes of poor employability. Poor employability reflects sub optimal utilization of the world’s third largest education system possessed by India. Poor political will is a big challenge for bringing reforms in regulatory framework to enhance employability of graduates. Profit first approach needs to be replaced by country first approach in Indian higher education. Teachers need to be provided due recognition along with career growth, better salaries, and autonomy. Entrepreneurship needs to be nurtured by higher education institutions along with industry collaboration to develop job providers and enhance skills of job seekers. Good intent is needed to overcome challenges and improve employability of graduates in India for inclusive and sustainable growth.
