EFFECT OF CYTOMIXIS ON MALE MEIOSIS IN DIFFERENT POPULATIONS OF POLYPOGON FUGAX NEES EX STEUD. FROM

Four populations of Polypogon fugax from Kangra district were studied for meiotic research (Himachal Pradesh). On the basis of the known base number x=7, all currently studied populations are hexaploid with a haploid chromosomal number of n=21. The current study found that spontaneous cytomixis occurs more frequently during diakinesis and M-I in three populations of P. fugax. Other meiotic anomalies, such as interbivalent connections, chromosome stickiness, unoriented bivalents, laggards, and others, have been investigated for the first time, resulting in heterogeneous sized pollen grains and lower pollen fertility.
