EFFECT OF CASTRATION AND TESTOSTERONE ADMINISTRATION ON THE LEVELS OF 2,3-DIPHOSPHOGLYCERATE AND ADE
Inbred Sprague-Dawley rats were castrated at 4 weeks old or given a single injection of testosterone propionate within 24 hours after birth. Male rats who were castrated had lower levels of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (DPG) and adenosine triphosphate in their red cells (ATP). The concentration of red blood cell DPG was likewise lowered in intact male and female rats after neonatal testosterone propionate treatment.
