EFFECT OF ASCORBIC ACID ON LONGEVITY AND REPRODUCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF CALLOSOBRUCHUS MACULATUS...

The optimal ascorbic acid concentration (1 mM) increased the life duration of C. maculatus while decreasing its reproductive capability. However, the percentage increase in LT50 and LT1oo was greater in females than males. Ascorbic acid's life-extension impact could be explained by its ability to reduce bruchid reproductive potential and/or to quench free radicals.
