ECO-PHYSIOLOGICAL STUDIES ON STOMATAL REGULATION IN SOME SPECIES OF AMARANTHACEAE AND COMPOSITAE....

In isolated epidermis of Amaranthus spinosus L., A. viridis L., Alternanthera sessilis R.Br. (Amaranthaceae); Synedrella modiflora Gaertn., and Eclipta prostrata L. (Compositae) incubated in varied concentrations of KCl, NaCl, and sugar, stomatal reactions were investigated. The inflow of K+ ions changed the opening, resulting in the absence of starch in the guard cells. It was discovered that the type of the incubation solutions had a significant impact on the regulation of opening. Solutions with comparable osmotic potentials but differing ions acted differently.
