CYTOGENETIC DATA ON TICKS | BIONATURE

The chromosomes of four Indian hard tick species were investigated. In all species, the diploid chromosome number is 21-22, with the XO: XX sex determination mechanism. All chromosomes are acrocentric, and the complement's longest member is the sex chromosome. Most species have reported typical meiotic stages in males, ranging from diplotene to metaphase-II. During female meiosis, only metaphase-I stages are found.
