CHROMOSOME VARIANTS IN BIRDS | BIONATURE

Bird chromosomes are examples of chromosome evolution in action. The karyotype is in flux in an interbreeding population with chromosome polumorphism, therefore a low frequency variant may not be the new chromosomal rearrangement, but rather a vestige of the original standard configuration. There are notable karyological similarities within groupings that are distinct from other groups. When compared to other taxa, hawks and eagles have unique karyotypes, indicating their early split during evolution. In contrast, chromosomal types show distinct consistency across four ostrich taxa, indicating a vast geographic dispersion. By mentioning particular work on goose and domestic hen, the current research demonstrates a variety of chromosomal mechanisms at work in bird evolution.
