CHANGES IN PROTEINS, PEROXIDASE AND HISTOLOGICAL PATTERNS DURING EPIPHYLLOUS BUD DIFFERENTIATION ...

Protein content and peroxidase activity were shown to vary in two Kalanchoe species, K. pinnata and K. daigremonitiana, respectively, but anatomical changes were only seen in K. pinnata. Chloramphenicol, a potential protein synthesis inhibitor, was used to observe the drifts. With the commencement of roots and sprouting in K. pinnata, total protein content climbed to a high level twice. Except for a spike right before roots, the protein content of K. daigremontiana displayed regular rhythmic oscillations. The activity of total peroxidase during differentiation implies that this enzyme system is not directly involved. During differentiation, histological changes indicated different phases of cellular configurations.
