ASSESSMENT OF AIR POLLUTION TOLERANCE OF TWO COMMON TREE SPECIES AGAINST SULPHER DIOXIDE | BIONATURE

By exposing young plants to varied concentrations of sulphur dioxide, a comparative study on tolerance to sulphur dioxide exposure was conducted on two species: Mimusops elengi (E) and Ficus religiosa (D). The degree of foliar harm was found to be closely proportional to the levels of contaminants. Plants exposed to the gas showed a decrease in root-shoot length, fresh and dry weight, photosynthetic pigments, and ascorbic acid, as well as a high amount of sulphate in their leaves. Both species exhibit the same pattern.
