Artificial Intelligence and Human Psychology: Present Reality and Future Possibilities

This short opinion piece aims to add to the literature on the relationship between "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) and psychological understanding, defining AI as any machine learning algorithms that process predefined instructions. The following questions influenced this paper: a) “Can or will an AI know others better than they know themselves, based on data gathered from human interaction on social media?”; b) “What are the ethical and psychological consequences of the relationship formed between AIs and humans?”;From the results, it is feasible to consider that an AI can obtain more reliable impressions about one individual than himself. Although, is essential to ponder how human stereotypes affect machine classifications. There are already software capable of performing psychotherapy. However, before it happens, a screening performed by a human being is still necessary. Finally, nowadays it is impossible for an AI to understand and reproduce all human subjectivity. In addition, new questions are introduced aiming to guide other researchers to look beyond.
