ANTI-TUMOUR DRUGS PRODUCED BY TISSUE CULTURE : A SHORT REVIEW | BIONATURE

Several key medications, including anti-tumour compounds, are derived from plants. Chemical compounds that have been found to have anti-tumor effects come from a variety of chemical groups (terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, and others). They are classified as alkylating agents, antimetabolites, spindle fibre toxins, and DNA intercalating compounds based on their method of action. Plant tissue culture has been employed as an alternative for the production of these medications, as well as for the study of their biosynthesis and control. In cultures, the generation of anti-tumour metabolites in Catharanthus roseus, Cocculus pendulus, C. hirsutus, and Ochrosia ellipitica has been studied, and high alkaloid generating cell lines have been created. The relevant information on antineoplastic agent synthesis via tissue culture is discussed.
