An Overview of Oral Health Situation and Challenges in Myanmar | Asian Journal of Research .........

The study's goal is to provide an overview of Myanmar's oral health situation and issues for policymakers to consider in order to promote a healthy lifestyle, as well as to encourage equity in the implementation of appropriate treatments in the country. This study was based on information gathered from scientific journals, conference presentations, documents, and information from reputable official and non-governmental sources about oral health in Myanmar. According to the analysis, the Myanmar population's oral health has not improved significantly since 1999. Oral health care is primarily provided by the private sector, with a major part of the population paying for these services out of pocket. Oral caries and periodontal disease are the most frequent oral disorders in Myanmar, while oral cancer cases are on the rise in both men and women. The high rate of untreated caries revealed a lack of public awareness about oral health issues, as well as inadequate utilisation of oral health care services and unmet requirements. Myanmar has a dentist-to-population ratio of about 1:16000, and there are no dental therapists or hygienists. These findings show that disparities in access to effective oral health care and oral health status between urban and rural communities must be addressed immediately. Auxiliary dental health workers should be trained to deliver primary oral health care services at underserved sites. Furthermore, the public oral health care system must be reinforced, and a political priority for oral health must be established in order to improve the oral health and overall well-being of Myanmar's population.
