An Odyssey of a Stenosed Bicuspid Aortic Valve | Asian Journal of Medical Case Reports

Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) causes the aortic valve of the heart to narrow. This stops the aortic valve from fully opening, resulting in reduced or blocked blood flow from the heart. BAV has a wide range of clinical manifestations. BAV is usually asymptomatic, however it can become calcified later in life in certain people. Aortopathy, valve dysfunctions, and endocarditis are the most common symptoms. We present a case of BAV with a 40-year follow-up to examine the temporal relationship and progression of various complications in order to gain a better knowledge of the disease process.
