AN INCIDENCE OF FIBROMA IN A CATFISH. HETEROPNEUSTES FOSSILIS (BLOCH) CAUGHT FROM THE LOWER LAKE....

Bhopal's Lower Lake is a badly polluted body of water. A study was conducted to determine the influence of pollution on fish health. Heteropneustes fossilis has only one case of fibroma, despite the presence of other illnesses. Two tumours, one on each mid-lateral side at the base of the caudal fin, were found almost opposite each other. The tumours were each around 1.3 cm in length and 1.1 cm in diameter. These tumours were histologically made of connective tissue, which resulted in a great number of whorl-like formations. The tumours are classified as fibromas because they arise from mesenchymal connective tissue. They weren't cancerous.
