The effect of aqueous extracts from the inflorescence, stem, and leaves of Parthenium hysterophorus Linn. on seed germination and seedling growth in Cassia sophera Linn., a frequent wasteland associated weed species in this area, was investigated. In all treatments, there was a decrease in the percentage of seed germination and the growth of the radicle and plumule of the seedlings. The degree of inhibition was determined by the extract concentration. Similar inhibitory effects were observed in the form of a decrease in seedling dry weight. Extracts from leaves. The presence of inhibitory compounds such as Parthenin, Caffeic acid, and P-coumaric acid in higher concentrations in the leaves could explain why the extracts behave differently.
