AGE-DEPENDENT VARIATIONS OF PHOSPHATASES IN TWO BRUCHID SPECIES | BIONATURE
At 0-24 hours after emergence, age-related changes of acid and alkaline phosphatases revealed that males of Calosobruchus maculatus and females of Zabrotes subfasciatus exhibit higher activity than their opposite sexes. The phosphatases showed two peaks in both sexes of two bruchids, the first arriving on the third day of postemergent survival and the second with a varied pattern. This indicates that there is species-specific enzyme variation as well as a clear role for these enzymes during reproduction. The transfer of metabolites to meet the energy requirements of bruchids can be attributed to the second peak of both enzyme activity.
