Adult Onset Giant Cystic Hygroma with Rapid Growth: A Rare Presentation | Asian Journal of Medical..

Introduction: Cystic hygroma / cystic lymphangioma is a benign lymphatic tumour that primarily affects children under the age of two. Adults are infrequently affected, hence there are few case reports in the literature. The posterior triangle is the most common place of occurrence. The typical development rate of cystic hygroma is moderate (weeks to months), yet fast growth patterns have been recorded on rare occasions. We describe a unique case of cystic hygroma in an older man who had a right-sided lateral neck enlargement that grew quite quickly during a 16-week period. Swelling both bothered him visually and caused pressure feelings in his lungs and digestive system. We were able to make the diagnosis after doing clinical, histological, and radiological examinations. A full surgical excision was performed. done. Patient has been monitored for two years and is disease-free.

Conclusion: Cystic hygroma is a benign lymphatic abnormality that develops slowly in children. Adults are seldom affected. Rapid growth is also uncommon. Surgical excision, laser surgery, steroid medication, sclerotherapy, cryotherapy, electrocautery, embolization, and radiation therapy are all alternatives for treatment. Early detection of recurrence, which can be as high as 21%, typically necessitates long-term follow-up.
